FERI-TB is governed by a volunteer board of directors that meets quarterly and provides fiduciary, strategic, and programmatic oversight. In our founding year, we have seated the minimum board required for effective governance and are actively recruiting for expansion.
Our board brings together infectious disease clinical practice, molecular biology, pharmacy, microbiology, and public health — the disciplines that together define modern tuberculosis response. Directors serve staggered two-year terms and are not compensated for board service.

Samuel is a doctoral candidate in public health at Walden University, a certified Infection Preventionist (CIC, a-IPC), and public health epidemiologist. His research and practice focus on tuberculosis treatment adherence and the structural and social determinants of health that drive treatment interruption among Virginia's affected populations. He founded FERI-TB after seeing the same pattern repeatedly across the data and the field: patients don't fail treatment — systems fail patients.
MS, Molecular Biology
Torlo brings a molecular biology background to FERI-TB's governance, bridging laboratory science and community health strategy. As Board President, she leads governance oversight, board development, and ensures FERI-TB's programmatic work is grounded in scientific evidence and organizational discipline.

Dr. Rao is Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. His clinical and scientific expertise in infectious diseases grounds FERI-TB's programmatic work in current evidence, and his standing in Virginia's academic medical community strengthens our capacity for partnership with health systems, research institutions, and public health agencies.

Dr. Toby brings clinical pharmacy expertise to FERI-TB's board — a discipline central to TB adherence work. Pharmacy insight into medication management, drug interactions, and patient counseling directly informs FERI-TB's navigation model and its focus on treatment completion.

Prince contributes microbiology expertise to FERI-TB's governance, strengthening the organization's scientific grounding in tuberculosis pathophysiology and infectious disease dynamics. His background supports FERI-TB's commitment to evidence-based programming and rigorous outcome measurement.
