Who can contact us
People affected by TB, family members, caregivers, health departments, and healthcare teams can contact FERI-TB about practical support in Virginia and Maryland. A useful first conversation starts with the person’s priorities: a difficult trip to an appointment, uncertainty about food or housing, information that is hard to understand, or a referral with no clear next step.
Our geographic focus includes Norfolk and Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia, and the Baltimore–Washington corridor. Contact the team about a specific location so that relevant resources and coordination needs can be discussed. An inquiry helps identify the next step; it is not a promise of a particular benefit.
The needs our navigation approach addresses
Community Health Advisors bring local knowledge, cultural understanding, and resource-navigation skills to the circumstances around care. The aim is a practical, understandable plan that fits the person’s priorities. Depending on the need, this may involve identifying a community resource, explaining an application process, coordinating a referral, or checking whether a connection happened.
- Housing: identify housing-related resources and clarify the receiving provider’s process and eligibility requirements.
- Transportation: explore options for reaching appointments and discuss practical arrangements with the relevant partners.
- Food and income pressures: connect with food resources, benefits information, and appropriate community assistance.
- Language and trust: coordinate understandable information and language-access needs with the person and care team.
- Coordination: clarify who to contact, what happens next, and which needs remain unresolved.
How to connect with our team
Email info@feritb.com with a general description of the support question and the city or county involved. You may also ask your healthcare team or health department to contact us about a referral pathway. Please begin without names, dates of birth, medical records, or other private health details. Our team can discuss consent and an appropriate communication process before personal information is shared.
The next step is to clarify the request, discuss resources and responsibilities, and agree on a practical way forward. The organization receiving a referral decides its own eligibility and availability. Navigation supports those connections and follow-up rather than guaranteeing housing, money, a ride, or a clinical outcome.
Working alongside your healthcare team
FERI-TB is a community-based public health nonprofit. Testing, diagnosis, prescribing, treatment decisions, and medical monitoring remain with healthcare providers and health departments. For a question about symptoms, medicines, or treatment, contact the treating team. Our contribution is attention to the social and practical conditions around that care.
Families and supporters can help by listening to what the person identifies as difficult and asking which next step would be most useful. Respect for the person’s choices, language, privacy, and dignity is central to the navigation approach.
